Guangzhou
Public-Opinion Research Center( for short, The PORC),
founded on April, 1988, is a non-official and self-governed
public opinion and social consensus poll and research
organization, the earliest founded specialized organization
in this field in China. The center, registered as an
associational artificial person, is organized around
the pattern of ¡°self-employed, self-managed, self-financed¡±.
The PORC is administrated under
the system of General Secretary, staffed by honored
consultants, consultants, directors and specialty instruction
committee. Honored consultants consist of provincial
leaders; consultants, directors and specialty instruction
committee are made up of leaders, specialists, scholars,
and famed entrepreneur. The center has established the
contact with all provincial capital cities and directly
jurisdiction city, thus achieving a wide-covered informational
source net of strong force and high academic status,.
The PORC staff has solid research
capacity which concerns sociology, psychology, administration,
politics, law, philosophy, economics, statistics, computer
science, public relation etc. To promote scholastic
cooperation as well as communion, they are actively
and fruitfully involved in research of multidiscipline
with domestic and foreign relative research organizations
and academic institutes.
The PORC owes to experts and
residence management department in that their cooperation
has enabled multi-layered sampling to produce multiple
research network?acity research system, village research
system, market research system and immediate response
system etc. City research system, in particular, comes
in all forms including household interviews, telephone
interviews, Internet research, street interviews as
monitored, case studies, symposia, literature collection
etc. This system utilizes advanced statistics analysis
software to process the collected data and applies to
any research work in Guangzhou and even GuangDong province.
The PORC has already set up research department, survey
department, data center, public relation department.
Task
The
PORC focuses its work on the major socio-economic development
issues and government important policy decision, the
knowledge of social tendency in every social class,
and the presentation of collected public opinions and
suggestions. The resulting statistics and reports will
be of benefit to provincial leadership and enterprises.
The PORC is accessible to assignments
from government or relative agencies that demand any
service of consensus research. The Center is open to
organize social negotiation, design commonweal activity
as to enhance communication within social classes.
The PORC will provide market
prediction, marketing strategy and regular market research
for enterprise and social organizations.
To improve organization image, the Center will offer
service such as social image design and advertising,
image promotion plan and enforcement.
The PORC will organize seminars and symposias related
to consensus research and start training programs on
consensus survey, market research, activity design.
Academic and scholastic studies will be available in
the Center on socio-psychology and public consensus
research and research academic literature and journal
will consequently come out.

Research
methods employed include telephone interview, household
questionnaires and interviews, posting, street interviews
as monitored, individual case study, symposia, literature
collection, internet survey, spot observation etc..
