The survey was conducted in February, 2003 by means of multistage random sampling. Group units as water & power & gas customers in Guangzhou were interiewed by questionaire, which totaled 209 including industrial manufacturers, commercial and trading companies, governmental agencies, social organizations and schools, etc. Though the respondent units had fairly differed comment on the three suplly services, they were mostly concerned with water and coal gas pricing and the monopoly in water & power & gas supply service. Over 40% of the respondents doubted the water pricing as reasonable and one third as unaffordable. Over 50% units could not justify the LPG pricing and nearly half of the respondents considered LPG unaffordable. The disapproving percentage in medium-small-scaled enterprises and private-owned enterprises as high as over 50% and 80%. Finally 86% of group respondents urged that water & power & gas supply service should welcome supervision and publicize their management and financing, and they also hoped that the government would enhance their commercialization by encouraging entrance of more competitors.

    The poll was conducted in December 2002 by means of multistage random sampling. The sample covered ten districts as well as two towns in Guangzhou. They totaled 1032 citizens of different ages, sexes and annual income. Among them, over 80 % supported the development objectives proposed by the Party Representative Congress, and 88% approved the construction achievements in Guangzhou for the recent years. There were 61% expecting stressed and quickened cultural development. The survey turned out issues that were mostly concerned and resolution-wanted were “employment and reemployment”, “ individual income increase”, “ urban pollution disposal”, their percentage being 82%, 78%, and 75% respectively.
