A
phone-interview at a large scale was conducted in July, 2003.
It made its subjects 4036 residents from eleven main cities throughout
Guangdong Province, differing in their sex, age and income.
As the survey turned out, 80% of the interviewees agreed on the
damage of wildlife consumption, indeed an uncivilized customary
diet, on natural environment. And 62.9% believed in the link between
the breaking out of SARS and the inconsiderate eating of the wildlife.
88.8% of the interviewees supported the legal act of banning.50.4%
interviewees consider selective banning reasonable while 33.6%
go to extreme by banning it at all, and 10.1% are unable to clear
their stand. But in all, there is a lack of confidence in the
ban execution, for 41% interviewees clearly stated that the ban
¡°would not¡± has its effect on eliminating the wildlife consuming,
while 25.4% said ¡°it would¡± and another 25.8% said ¡°it is difficult
to say¡±.
More than fifty percent of interviewees nodded that wildlife has
been in their menu. Rich people are listed as the main consumer
for wildlife by 68.8% of the interviewees, and powerful people
are listed by 44.2% interviewees.
